That awkward space between reality and reality television.

Once again it is that time that all Possum Holler readers look forward to: the moment that I make my Oscar picks so that you all can watch and laugh as they are all wrong!
But I do think that the Academy has an opportunity on Sunday to right two wrongs and finally acknowledge a pair of legends.
Best Actor: Peter O'Toole, Venus (Wrong #1, righted)
Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls
Best Actress: Helen Mirren, The Queen (Could easily be Streep, though)
Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls (This year's foregone conclusion)
Animated Film: Happy Feet
Art Direction: Dreamgirls
Cinematography: Children of Men
Costume Design: Dreamgirls (I really wanted to go with Marie Antoinette, though)
Director: Martin Scorcese, The Departed (Wrong #2, righted)
Documentary: An Inconvenient Truth (Though probably not technically that great, I don't see them not acknowledging it's impact)
Documentary Short: Recycled Life
Film Editing: Children of Men
Foreign Film: Pan's Labyrinth
Musical Score: Babel
Best Song: Dreamgirls (I'm cheating here and claiming victory if any of the three songs from Dreamgirls that are nominated wins)
Animated Short: No Time for Nuts
Live Action Short: The Saviour
Sound Editing: Letters from Iwo Jima
Sound Mixing: Dreamgirls (I didn't even watch it, but I'm relying on it heavily)
Visual Effects: Pirates of the Carribean
Adapted Screenplay: Children of Men
Original Screenplay: Little Miss Sunshine (Tough category, but I'm thinking they will use this to reward the "little film that could")
Best Picture: The Departed
Now for my personal Top 10 of 2006:
1. The Departed
2. Children of Men
3. The Queen
4. United 93
5. Pan's Labyrinth
6. Volver
7. Little Miss Sunshine
8. Marie Antoinette
9. The Science of Sleep
10.The Devil Wears Prada
And my 5 favorite:
1. The Departed
2. Marie Antoinette
3. Bobby
4. Volver
5. A Scanner Darkly
