That awkward space between reality and reality television.

A constant question I have recieved over the past few weeks has been in regards to my living arrangements. This is a question that most people should easily answer, but, as is often the case for me, requires a lengthy and oft confusing tale. To fully understand where I am and where I will be, one must first take into account where I have been. Now, my homeless plight of the fall of '03 has been well documented, but few people are aware of what happened next...

In December, I answered an ad in the Daily Tar Heel for some guys looking for a roommate. It turns out that the guy looking for someone to live in his room while he was in England was the son of my fifth grade teacher. We'll call him Roommate 1, though we never officially were roommates. Roommate1 had two roommates whom I would be living with for the semester, Roommate2 and Roommate3. Roommate1 told me when I moved in that I would have the option of staying til August or moving out when he returned in May. At the time, both Roommates2 and 3 were planning on leaving in May.

As the semester progressed both Roommate2 and Roommate3 decided that they would be stayin in Apartment 1 all summer, and in May Roommate1 would return leaving four people to vie for three spots. However, Roommate3 announced that he would be moving to a new place in August, so I agreed to stay with Roommate1 and Roommate2 as the third roommate for the fall. Also, I agreed that I would move out of the apartment for the summer and return to live for the remainder of the year in August. Leaving some of my stuff in Apartment 1, I moved into Apartment 2 subleting for Roommate4 while he went home to Texas for the summer. There I would be living with Roommate5 who lived in Apartment 2 all year and Roommate6 who was subleting for the summer for Roommate7.

Everything was working out smoothly until the day that I was approached on campus by Roommate1 who informed me that for reasons that I was not to divulge, he was not going to be living with Roommate2 and I next year but rather with some other friends. The hunt was on to find Roommate8, though I knew of no one who fit the description. Roommate2 assured me that he had several people that were interested.

Then, 2 weeks ago out of the blue, I received a phone call from Roommate9 whom I had been suitemates with for two years in college and consider to be one of my best friends. He informed me that he was moving back to Chapel Hill. He offered me a room in Apartment 3 with him and Roommate10 and Roommate11, neither of which I knew. I told him that sounded great, but I would have to try to get out of my commitment with Roommate2. I knew that would be difficult since he hadn't even found Roommate8 yet.

I informed Roommate2 that I wanted to go live with Roommate9, but I did not want to leave him hanging. While Roommate1 was assisting in the search for Roommate8, I assured him that I would do my best to find Roommate12.

I followed a few leads and found a potential Roommate12, but still without a Roommate8, Roommate2 decided that he would just move out and live with some other people.

So, in case you didn't catch that, currently I'm living in Apartment 2 with Roommate5 and Roommate6, but I will be moving into Apartment 3 in August to live with Roommates9, 10 and 11.

I am amused by the irony of originally coming to Chapel Hill and having no place to live and in the next couple of weeks I will have three: One where my furniture resides, one where my clothes reside, and one where my mail will be delivered.
